引子

这应该是我第四遍看这个片子了。一直想好好的分析一下这个电影,我简直想把它解剖成最小的粒子,然后,用我身体每一处细胞,来吸收它。这大概是与我共鸣最强烈的一部片子。我全身心的爱它,超过一切。所以我甚至开始爱屋及乌,也将多纳托雷列为我最喜欢的导演。我强烈的感觉到,多纳托雷与我很多想法是非常一致的,而且很奇妙的不谋而合。我可以在其中看到我的一些世界观,我甚至在爱上某一位导演班的女孩子之后辗转反侧而大半夜的打开电脑看它。然后在追求没有成功之后,我还是点开这部片子,看1900的那些遭遇,然后流泪。在别人问我最喜欢那部电影的时候,我决不会故作品味高,说:“我喜欢《公民凯恩》!我喜欢安东尼奥尼的!”我会毫不犹豫的说:“我最喜欢海上钢琴师。”同寝室的一位导演班兄弟看见我如此喜欢《海上钢琴师》而将我视为个性的人,他说能喜欢这样的片子的人到这种地步,本人估计也是很特别的一个人。他说他可不想看第二遍,他觉得太闷了,太慢了。谁知道呢。在IMDB,《海上钢琴师》的评分只有7.8,而在mtime,此片的分数却高达9.0。如此悬殊的分数,到底是不是与西方人的浪漫细胞有关,还是欧洲人品位高,全都是电影大师,都去看安东尼奥尼、侯麦、特吕弗,觉得多纳托雷的电影实在太肤浅太表层,美国人都去看好莱坞商业片觉得多纳托雷太深奥太文艺,最后多纳托雷无辜的被夹杂中间,只能被亚洲人接受?谁知道?还有人觉得1900 的身世太过神秘而无法对他产生同情感导致影片失色,但是因为这个片子是一首诗歌,而不是叙事文学,不是历史传记,不是纪录片。如果真的要细细得什么都讲,我想多纳托雷的极端浪漫主意是无法实现的。

上网查了一下子浪漫主义,如是说:“法国著名浪漫主义女作家乔治·桑曾对批判现实主义大师巴尔扎克说:“你既有能力而也愿意描绘人类如你所眼见的。好的!反之,我,总觉得必要按照我希望于人类的,按照我相信人类所应当有的来描绘它。”乔治·桑的这段话表明她在创作上所遵循的是与现实主义不同的创作方法,这就是浪漫主义。浪漫主义的基本特征是理想主义,就是按照作家认为生活应当有的样式来反映生活,因而总是理想地描写对象或者描写理想化的对象。”

多纳托雷通过自己理想中创造的一个纯洁到神圣的1900和他纯美的大海世界,来反衬社会上一些他想要解剖的问题。多纳托雷总得来说应该算是积极浪漫主义的一派,他通过创建自己理想的一个模式来讲述自己的主题,这正符合浪漫主义的特征。

一、主题与内涵

影片的主题中,包含了一个人的成长,包含了爱情、友情,包含了寂寞与漂泊,包含了命运,包含了一种强烈的归属感,包含了人的纯性,包含了人生观、世界观,包含了哲学。 导演要讲得有很多,或者说其实他根本没有想要特别刻意的讲什么东西。一些东西讲出来都是顺其自然的。最后1900说的那段经典台词,也就是他应该说的。整个儿影片就像是一首诗,一首极端浪漫的诗歌,一首甜美的、又夹杂着淡淡忧伤的爱情诗,一首不朽的传奇史诗,讲述着从生到死的人生,一个纯洁的人性闪着璀璨的光芒,从生,到死。但其实这又是一首不存在的诗,因为它浪漫到了极致。浪漫到极致的东西,看起来就似乎很遥远,像是隔着浓浓的雾,你伸手去抓,极其渴望得到它,却总是差上那么一段距离,无论如何也触碰不到。最后带给你的,只有无限的感慨,无限的失落,无限的缅怀。多纳托雷一定应该是一个浪漫的人,他的极致浪漫气氛,造就了一种极美的氛围和感觉,然后就像是化成一股巨浪扑向你,让你完全浸润在浪漫的海洋中,让你体内每一个细胞都喝足了浪漫的水。

1900是一个未受污染的人,纯洁得几乎无法让他与凡人同类。这与他生活的地方,他周围的环境密不可分。首先他周围的很多船员本身就被导演修饰成为单纯,不染污浊的一群人。他们率真,朴实,从影片很多段落可以看出来。比如在斗琴那一段。有两个船员应该是赌了1900获胜,在比赛的过程中,他们与1900一样,没有比赛的概念,不知道场上到底是

怎么一种情况,所以只能问前面的富家子弟“did he lose?”其实当时1900已经是落了下风,要一败涂地了,对方回答“not yet”,两个船员一听特别开心,高兴的鼓掌,单纯得可爱。1900一直觉得陆地上的陌生人也应该是跟他一样纯洁的,可是他却遭受了打击,在随便给外界拨电话的时候,他遭到了别人的怒骂。他觉得非常奇怪,觉得“难道电话里面的人不应该是彬彬有礼吗?”,当时的我实在是很心疼,我真的希望,1900别与这些人接触,这一杯纯净的圣水,只能存放在天堂,放在人间的任何地方,都会落上灰尘,受到污染。1900惧怕陆地上的人。从那两个黑人追逐1900的片段,就能够看出来。他也受不住束缚,喜欢率性而为,想做什么,就做什么。在金色大厅演奏的时候,小提琴手多次提醒他,要弹奏“just normal notes”,可是他还是受不了这样的循规蹈矩,最后依然是弹着弹着,就弹到了自己的调调上,然后一发不可收拾。其实我们何尝不是在生活中做着一些被束缚的事情。像是命题作文,用题目束缚你,你只能写这个题目;像是上课,有的课你喜欢,有的课你不喜欢,但是你却还是得上;像是做一些项目,可是你没有经费;像是你有才华,却不得不去违心的巴结讨好才有可能被识中,我们无时无刻不在被束缚着,但是自由,却又伴随着束缚而生,如果没有束缚存在,也就谈不上自由。1900冲得破别人给他的“只弹normal notes”的束缚,但是还有更大的束缚在等着他,比如他必须在大海上弹奏,他必须有双手,或者,最基本的,他必须在自己活着的时候弹。这个问题不能再讨论了,不然将涉及更多哲学知识而跑题。但是反过来看,1900这一个做法,已经是在追求自由的路途上了。或者,他也许只是想这么做了,就这么做了。

当然,如果只就音乐来讲,冲破束缚即是意味着成功必不可少的条件。我不相信那些大音乐家在别人各种束缚下能做出好音乐。他一定需要自己全身心的放松,按照自己的方式,释放自己的能量,而不需要别人指手画脚。

影片中我们经常看见“自由女神像”,见到人们对着她激动的喊叫。但是真的是到了美国就自由了吗?导演给出的解释都在1900最后那一段话中:“陆地?

陆地对我来说是一艘太大的船,太漂亮的女人,太长的旅程,太浓烈的香水,无从着手的音乐。你看到那数不清的街道吗?如何只选择其中一条去走?你甚至不知道什么时候才是尽头。一想到这个,难道不会害怕、不会崩溃吗?”看见这个,你还会觉得自由女神会给你自由吗?城市太大了,自己在命运的笼罩下还谈何自由?

在现实的社会,每个人想要生活在社会里面,就一定得穿着一个不属于自己的外套,带着面具,蒙住自己的脸,说违心的话。在参议员给1900做完采访后,1900的一个回答正强调了此点:“如果我回家,我会在巴黎埃菲尔铁塔的下面,等待日落余晖,看路上的行人褪去自己的面具„„” 何尝不是,我们每个人一定得伪装自己,让自己圆滑,才能过活。每个人都在无时无刻的提防着对方。家里的门换成了铁门,观察外面用猫眼,邻居接触少得可怜。这样活着可真累。不知道世界到底能不能变成1900心中期望的那个样子。

浪漫主义的电影,一般都是离不开爱情的。不过这部片子里,爱情却并非主线。更多情况下,这是一部讲述友情比爱情更多的电影,它着重讲述一个人的一生而不是要着力刻画一次轰轰烈烈的爱情。不过我觉得多纳托雷最后那一笔随性一点,着墨不多却刻画深刻的爱情故事,居然是我第一遍看过之后印象最深刻的地方。这样的爱情实在是太纯了。上一段我们提到1900本身就是一杯纯净的水,或者是一张白纸,那么1900的这一次爱情,就看起来格外的神圣和纯洁,就像是泉水的源头纯净得一塌糊涂,那么他喷涌出的泉水必然不会是污水。甚至来说,1900这一段萌发的爱情,要比其它的电影中的爱情更加给人怜爱的感觉,就像是在一个没有绿色的土地上,突然一棵幼绿的小苗破土而出,你感到不得不去呵护它、珍惜它。至少,这是我最真实的感觉,所以在最后,1900最终与自己的爱情擦肩而过,才会有如此巨大的动人的力量。他不需要泰坦尼克号那样惊天地泣鬼神的爱情,只需要在你的心中,轻轻的刻下一道伤痕,在你回味的时候,一点点的渗入你的内心、灵魂,直到最后痛得你泪

流满面。一般想要赚钱电影中,涉及爱情,或者完全就是爱情电影的话,结局一定是大团圆的,如果想要带点悲剧感觉的,就得考验导演的功力了,或者是本子好,像是泰坦尼克号,在不就是感情处理得好,像是这一部海上钢琴师,或者导演本身就不想赚钱,像是安东尼奥尼手下的男女。其实1900的爱情从开始就已经预示着是一个悲剧。1900本身是无法下船的,他恐惧陆地。而这个姑娘却是要下船的。他们一定会分开。可是1900却在最后知道了这个姑娘的住址。他的这孤寂的一生中,只有那个女孩和那个女孩的爸爸是在所有匆匆而过的陌生人中与1900接触最多的,给1900人生改变最大的。女孩儿的爸爸对1900说的,大海的声音,以及change life start fresh更是让1900有下船念头的催化剂。1900最后曾有一个非常让人吃惊的决定,用麦克斯的话来说,就像是墙上的一幅画,莫名其妙的掉了下来。这就涉及了命运的命题。从影片最开头,destiny这个单词就已经出现。影片也给予观众很强的命运感。1900的出现,到被danny捡到,然后在船上生活,等等,放远了看,一切都像是命运安排好的。就像是我们的中国哲学的徐辉老师说,他也并不知道自己怎么会站在中国传媒大学的讲台上给同学讲哲学;就像是我爸爸不知道是什么让他遇见我妈妈,并与之结婚,生下我。很多时候,在回想自己的一些选择,总会唏嘘不已,一些神秘的念头在心中萌发。我猜这也是很多哲学家会讨论命运这一个命题吧。所以解释到了命运,1900是如何学会钢琴的也可以归结到了命运的使然,但是导演也是做了一些铺垫的,比如在danny的尸体丢入大海的那一天,1900被天上一首奇怪的钢琴天籁所吸引。在小1900第一次走进高等舱金色大厅那个玻璃门向里面张望的时候,一个缓慢移动的镜头最终停止的那个地方,就是一个钢琴师在弹钢琴。这是寓意很明显。

稍微分析一下导演对1900如何学会钢琴的铺垫这一场戏。是从30分钟左右开始的。从麦克斯那,切换过来的画面中是一个小1900席地做在船舱的最下层,镜头缓缓的前推,周围是漆黑的,仅有的是四个船舱的窗户,在他右边是一个大盒子, 不知道这个大盒子是不是做支点,因为他是这个画面中少数几个物件。“黑色是死亡的沉寂,用于象征悲痛和死亡。”因为在前一段剧情中,他的养父,一个善良的黑人水手,在一次不幸中出了事故死去了。主角的心中很悲痛,唯一的亲人也失去了,生活没有了依靠,心灵很空虚,前景渺茫。

然后他听到了甲板上层的钢琴声,在黄色灯光照射中爬上梯子,向上爬去,导演通过主观向上看的镜头来表现小1900向上移动。梯子被灯光照射的金黄。“温暖的“黄色”是一种金子的色彩,是一种太阳和创造(画家凡高语)的色彩,它负载有欢乐、富有、光荣和大调调式的音乐的情感意义;”主角在音乐的召唤下,找到了希望,暗示着主角的生命将会出现荣耀。

然后画面转到了船舱底层的其他地方,深蓝的颜色,近于黑色,一道光线从甲板上照射下来。象征着音乐像一道光明从上面照到了主角枯燥无谓的生活中,作为一个孩子,本应该是充满活力的,但是他作为船上一个特殊的存在,他在接触音乐之前,没有找到理想的,没有希望。

之后他走到了客舱,采用前跟镜头,顺着音乐来到了大庭,再切换成主观镜头,透过那种模糊的玻璃看到大庭正在举行宴会,有乐队在伴奏,有人在餐桌前交谈,也有人在跳舞,这些都是有钱人。这是他第一次接触到音乐,音乐在他眼中像透过玻璃看到的朦胧的场面一样神奇,像幻想一样。这就是未来将影响他一生的东西——音乐。

当然,即使不讲命运,电影的极端浪漫主义风格也告诉观众,导演并不需要讲得这么详细。那么再想想,是什么,让1900遇到那个女孩子呢?无论是讲缘分,讲偶然,其实归结看来,都是命运。所以这大抵就是麦克斯所说的,墙上的画儿挂在那儿,没有人动钉子,或者说根本没有人动它,但是它却无缘无故的掉下来了,bang!掉下来了。这种神奇又强势的动力,非命运所为不可。命运让他决定下船,但是命运却让这个决定成为一个决定而永远无法成为一个现实。因为1900不会下船。

谈到这儿,就讲到了1900 的世界观和人生观。在1900遇到女孩子的父亲的时候,父亲跟1900说他以前只是一个种地的人,对他来说,整个世界都在那块土地上。这正合1900的世界观惊人的相似。因为对1900来说,整个世界都在大海中。他恐惧城市,就像纯洁恐惧污浊;他本是与城市分隔的,就像是光明与黑暗分隔。

在1900与外界电话对讲的时候,也是1900再次恶化对外界印象的佐证。1900本来是以心比心,觉得城市的人应该也是美好的,但是最后经证实他失败了,也失望了。他在最后给麦克斯解释他不下船原因的时候,也正是电影中最精彩的部分。钢琴88个键,但是也是有一个start,一个end的,可是城市,让他看不到尽头。让他恐惧。那里有那么多人,那么多街道,那么多房子,而他要从那么多人中寻找一个女人,一条街道,一个房子。这太可怕了。1900的这句话更像是对命运和上帝的敬畏。88个键是他的无限,他只能够达到在有限中创造无限的水平,要想在无限种创造无限,他甚至无从下手,他应付不过来。1900在他的世界中,小心翼翼的窥视城市这个更大的世界,却发现了命运在城市世界中的霸道和不可抗拒,在那儿,他无法左右自己的命运,他只能在命运中随波逐流,或者他必须呕心沥血的抗争,才能有一点点可怜的希望,能够扼住自己命运的咽喉。分析到了这里,1900的人生观与价值观中,倒似乎有了一分消极的成分。他没有足够的勇气去实现在陆地上看海的愿望,也没有能够再见到那个女孩子,他最后缺少抗争的勇气,而被无限的城市吓得停住了脚步。而且1900的想法有的时候也有些思考过多。无限既然摆在那里,你何必要去想那些不属于你自己的问题呢?那些都是上帝要思考的问题。当然这并没有好与不好的区分。我在说这些的时候,是站在我,一个人类的角度思考问题的。若将世界换成仅仅一条船,一个大海,站在1900世界观来看他的选择,他的想法是毋庸置疑的。

1900最后的那段台词中,还多少影射了人的一些贪婪欲望,一些大得无止境的空想。而1900本身是没有多少欲望的,他甚至都没有竞争的心思。在斗琴那一段,可以很好的支持我的这一论断。1900完全不是因为争强好胜而答应要和杰瑞斗琴。一切只是因为他好奇。他甚至会为对手感动,而真心的想要下注买对手。

“他是寂寞的,但是唯一让他温暖的就是麦克斯。”这句话是我在mtime网上查资料的时候看别人说的。其实寂寞这个含义我并不觉得有多明显,因为1900并没有因为自己寂寞而伤心难过或者有什么过激的表现。没有说寂寞得趴在甲板的栏杆上哭泣,他没有,他看着人在自己身边来来往往,表情中我们是看不出他到底是不是寂寞。这些都只是猜测。我猜导演也并不是着重要表现寂寞。1900身边至少有一些朴实的船员,有船长,有名字好长的医生,当然,还有与他最好的麦克斯。导演不讲寂寞,但是讲友情倒是真的。麦克斯是真正可以走进1900内心并深刻理解1900的人。因为他理解,所以他一直支持着1900。甚至来说,麦克斯对1900还有一部分是钦佩。最后他穷困潦倒,但是却为了自己的朋友,把自己所剩无几的钱给了炸船工人,想要救出自己的好朋友。是的,最终麦克斯并没有用强硬手段把1900拽出佛吉尼亚号,因为作为1900最好的朋友,他理解1900,他知道1900下了船之后一定会是生不如死的。如此的知心与理解,一生能有一个这样的朋友也足矣!

再讲讲1900的归属感。我一直在想,为什么导演不厌其烦的强调那么多人喊“America!”,后来我理解到,那些人那么期待美国,其实是一种强烈的归属感在起作用。大海不是他们的归属,所以他们急着要回到陆地,所以他们见到自由女神像那么激动。而相反,1900却归属于大海。1900在船底长大,小的时候经常独自一个人通过舷窗看外面的大海。大海几乎陪伴了他的整个童年,直到一生。

二、视听语言

从本片的叙事层次来解读影片。本片使用的是两条线,一条线是麦克斯自己的回忆,一条线是麦克斯要去船上救人。所以此片的带入感并不像好莱坞那样强烈,而是带有一些欧洲电影的痕迹。因为整片有很多部分是麦克斯用解说词的方式来解说的,更多的像是观众在听

一个人讲述一个故事,而不是与主角亲身经历每一件事。多纳托雷在这两条线的叙事上表现得非常清楚和流畅。

接下来应该谈叙事素材,谈到它之前,我得先抛出一个问题:“到底是什么东西帮助多纳托雷构造出如此的浪漫主义风格?”

1、首先的,一定要讲到 Ennio Morricone,这一位欧洲电影音乐配乐巨匠,一生为400多部电影谱写原创音乐,简直惊为神人,奥斯卡终身成就奖是对他最大的肯定。我看过的电影不算是多的,但是在我少数奉为经典的电影中,他配过乐的电影有三个:《美国往事》、《天堂电影院》、《海上钢琴师》。如果说ennio与莱昂内的合作是他的第一个高峰,那么与多纳托雷的合作就是第二个。他与多纳托雷有着高度的默契,而且多纳托雷给他的发挥空间也很大。像是这一部以音乐为主题的电影,ennio配起来真是如鱼得水,而且他也凭借了《海上钢琴师》赢得了金球奖最佳配乐。

那么ennio的在此片中的配乐即是烘托出极端浪漫气息的主要功臣。影片以爵士乐为主,在表现忧郁伤感的调子上,非常贴切。看过的人不会忘记1900带着麦克斯在金色大厅中用钢琴跳了一曲华尔兹。原声碟里面,这个曲子的名字是magic waltz(楼下网友说这个作曲不是ennio),确实,它就像是魔法一样,抚慰了晕船的麦克斯恐惧的心。

此片的主题曲,是最精彩的,简直与1900的灵魂融为一体,与那浪漫又纯洁的爱情交相呼应。而且这个曲子的叙事功能也很强。从1900看到了那个女孩之后,我们甚至可以完全凭借想象,来走进1900的内心。这一段旋律很简单,但是却美得摄人心魄,浪漫的让人窒息。

而且在1900用音乐来阅读每一个路人那个片段的时候,ennio的配乐更是惟妙惟肖。无论是那个和情人串通起来谋杀亲夫,携家中珠宝外逃的德国女人,还是那个无法忘记过去的男人,无论是要坠为妓女的女人,还是那个从低等舱混入高等舱猎艳的偷渡客,每一个的配乐都是如此贴切。1900用自己最富有的想象力,通过音乐洞穿每一个人的内心。他的心最纯洁,所以看得也都是每个人最本质的东西。音乐的情绪渲染和表意功能,在此处是最明显的。

再比如说1900站在通往城市的阶梯上犹豫着要不要下去,还有最后结束1900与船同沉等片段中用宏伟的交响乐非常气魄地渲染了场景,让人们觉得他当初选择海洋和选择死亡都是那么的震撼感人。

2、叙事素材的选定。本子本身就是一个散发着浪漫气息的故事,加上选景:美丽的大海,一艘漂泊的轮船,一段真挚的友情,一场带着淡淡伤感的爱情,一个弹钢琴出神入化的传奇人物。这一切造就了足够味的浪漫气氛。

3、在镜头的运动上,画面的构图上,导演也创造了唯美浪漫的感觉,剪辑流畅,舒缓而充满诗意。首先镜头的运动上,导演是用缓缓的运动镜头,而且每个镜头的时长相对很长,所以就创造出了一种诗一般的、舒缓的、优美的情绪。影片最开头就是一连串这样的缓慢移动镜头。开始是给一个小号的特写镜头,然后缓缓拉出来,一个叠画,切到台阶,然后向下移动,当麦克斯在画面中位置正确了之后,又开始缓缓的推进;再看另外一段,小1900失踪30天后,突然出现的那个晚上,他在金色大厅弹奏美妙的曲子,船上的人们争相走进金色大厅的时候,镜头并没有直接给到1900在弹琴,而是采用声画分离的方法,然后镜头缓缓的摇,最后,停在了1900身上。有一些可以直接用剪辑来完成的镜头多纳托雷却喜欢用更诗意的方法完成,比如我说的镜头移动方式,和增加镜头的时长,能一个镜头完成的就不再增加镜头。当然了,在需要增加镜头书目积累情感的时候,多纳托雷还是会这么做的。像是斗琴那一段,最后多纳托雷用漂亮的运动镜头和华丽的快速剪辑创造了那一段高潮,也缔造了一份经典。

在构图与取景上,多纳托雷以前是搞摄影的,所以他的电影中,画面构图更加的有特点。最

明显的是在1900第一次弹奏主题曲的那场戏。女孩子从舷窗外出现,一个巧妙的框式构图,然后镜头缓慢的摇,女孩子从第一个圆形的窗户,走到第二个,光线从她的侧后方打来形成侧逆光,由于是白天,她的背后并没有形成太明显的轮廓光,但是倒是形成了另一种情况,那就是女孩子的头部正后方恰好形成了一片纯白色的光晕,加上右边侧脸的光,好像是已经与后面的大海融为一体,美得好像是天使。这个女孩子并不是很美,但是多纳托雷却通过一系列构图与前景和背景选择,配上优美的音乐,使她顿时增色不少。再比如说1900对着可以映出影子的墙,模拟自己第一次与女孩子说话的情景,也是充满诗意的。魔镜的效果既华丽,又可以营造含蓄唯美的感觉。

在斗琴的那一段,多纳托雷更多的使用前景、黑色琴盖的反射,大角度仰拍,形成巧妙的构图。
